The string $EP_HOME is used throughout examples in this User's guide to refer to the base directory of your ExpressionPlot install. If installed correctly, you can find out what it is by running expressionplot-config with no arguments from your command line. If you add the following line to your .bashrc file (or just run it once to last for the current session) then the examples will work as written in this guide:

 export EP_HOME=`expressionplot-config`
